1. Of, relating to, or designating a group of North American Indian peoples inhabiting the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, and the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State. Cf. Nootka adj. 1.In relation to words, language, etc., referring to the Nootka language as distinct from the language family to which it belongs (see senses A. 2 and B. 2 and cf. note s.v. Nootka adj. 1). Previously also called West Coast.
