Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: Greek νόος , -logist comb. form.
Etymology: < ancient Greek νόος nous n. + -logist comb. form, after German Noologist (1781 in the passage translated in quot. 1838). Compare earlier noology n.
Now rare.
A person who refers the origin of certain ideas to the mind itself and not to experience; a rationalist.
