Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: dream n.2, time n.
Etymology: < dream n.2 + time n. With sense 2 compare earlier slightly earlier alchera n. and also alcheringa n.In sense 2 originally and chiefly rendering Aranda (Northern Territory) altjerre dream (see alchera n.) and its derivative altjerreŋe alcheringa n. The addition of the element time n. in English was apparently an attempt to express the difference of this concept from ordinary night-time dreams. Compare dreaming n. 3 and the discussion at that entry.
