Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French novité.
Etymology: < Middle French novité novelty, change, innovation (1298 in Old French) < classical Latin novītāt- , novītās newness, novelty, innovation < novus new adj. + -tās (see -ty suffix1). Compare Italian novità (a1292), Portuguese novidade (1294), Spanish novedad (1444).
Now rare.
