Brit. /ˌnəʊtəˈdʒiːə/, U.S. /ˌnoʊdəˈdʒiə/
Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymons: Greek νότος, γαῖα.
Etymology: < ancient Greek νότος south wind, south (see Notus n.) + γαῖα, poetic form of γῆ the earth (see geo- comb. form). Compare Arctogaea n.
Originally: a zoogeographical division comprising the Australian, New Zealand, and Neotropical regions. Now: a zoogeographical realm comprising the Australian region (which includes New Guinea, New Zealand, and the islands of the Pacific).
