Etymology: < ancient Greek νοήματ-, νόημα thought (see noema n.) + -ical suffix. In sense 2 after German noematisch (1913 in the passage translated in quot. 1931 at sense 2; compare noema n.); compare French noématique (1931 in this sense, also translating Husserl). Compare earlier noematically adv., and (with sense 2) noematic adj.

†1. Originating or existing in thought, or in the mind alone; purely intellectual. Obsolete. rare.
