Etymology: < classical Latin nocuus harmful ( < nocēre to hurt, injure (see nocent n. and adj.) + -uus , suffix forming adjectives) + -ous suffix. Compare slightly later innocuous adj.
Noxious, hurtful; venomous, poisonous.
