Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek νεῦρον , -itis suffix.
Etymology: < ancient Greek νεῦρον nerve (see neuro- comb. form) + -itis suffix. Compare French névrite (1821).
Medicine.
Inflammation of a nerve or nerves. Also (occasionally): neuralgia or neuropathy.Frequently with distinguishing word indicating the nerve(s) involved.
