Forms: Also 1700s tauridore, tawridore, 1700s–1800s torreadore, 1800s torreador, tauridor, ( tauréador).
Etymology: < Spanish toreador ‘a bull-baiter’ (Minsheu), modern Spanish ‘a bull-fighter on horseback’; so in French. The forms in taur- agree with earlier French tauréador and with Latin taurus.
a. One who engages in a (Spanish) bullfight, esp. on horseback; a bullfighter.
