Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: myelo- comb. form, -blast comb. form.
Etymology: < myelo- comb. form + -blast comb. form, after German Myeloblast (O. Naegeli 1900, in Deutsch. med. Wochenschr. 3 May 289/1).
Histology.
A primitive precursor of a white blood cell, normally confined to the bone marrow; spec. the earliest recognizable precursor of the granulocytic series, maturing into a promyelocyte.
