(after Old Occitan musar to play the bagpipes); compare -ar suffix3.This specific sense is not dated in dictionaries of French or Occitan. However, compare:1842 Complément du Dict. de l'Acad. Française Musard, il se dit autrefois de certains bardeurs et musiciens. Les musards ou musars étaient presque tous provençaux.1890 E. Rostand Musardises p. viii Au temps jadis les ‘musards’ étaient de certains bateleurs et jongleurs, provençaux d'origine, qui s'en allaient de par le monde en récitant des vers.
