Origin: A borrowing from Latin; probably modelled on a German lexical item. Etymon: Latin rādīcandum.
Etymology: < classical Latin rādīcandum, gerundive of rādīcārī radicate v. (compare -and suffix2), probably after German Radikand (1859 or earlier in this sense).
Mathematics.
A number or quantity from which a root is to be extracted.
