Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: multi- comb. form, -lingual comb. form.
Etymology: < multi- comb. form + -lingual comb. form. Compare French multilingue , adjective (1664 in apparently isolated pejorative use as noun, subsequently 1939 as adjective in sense A.). With sense B., compare earlier bilingual n., and also plurilingual adj. and n. (b) at pluri- comb. form .
