In quot. 1830 perhaps taken to be a French word, or simply an error for French morganatique (see morganatic adj.); *morganique does not appear to be attested in French. N.E.D. (1908) gives the pronunciation as (mǫrgæ·nik) /mɒrˈɡænɪk/.
