Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Latin. Or (ii) a borrowing from Greek. Etymons: Latin ginglymoides; Greek γιγγλυμοειδής.
Etymology: < (i) post-classical Latin ginglymoides (1603 or earlier), or its etymon (ii) ancient Greek γιγγλυμοειδής like a hinge < γίγγλυμος ginglymus n. + -οειδής -oid suffix.
