Etymology: < Middle French mordication irritation (early 14th cent. in Old French in medical contexts), action of biting (late 16th cent.) and its etymon post-classical Latin mordication-, mordicatio burning effect, burning sensation (5th cent.; from c1200 in British sources) < mordicat- , past participial stem of mordicare (see mordicate v.) + -io -ion suffix1. N.E.D. (1908) gives the pronunciation as (mǭɹdikēi·ʃən) /mɔːdɪˈkeɪʃən/.
Obsolete.
