Etymology: < French monocline (1799; < mono- mono- comb. form + ancient Greek κλίνη bed, couch: see clino- comb. form) + -ous suffix. Compare slightly later diclinous adj.
Botany.
Of a flower or flowering plant: having both stamens and pistils in the same flower, hermaphrodite.
