单词 trinity
释义

trinityn.

/ˈtrɪnɪti/
Forms: Middle English–1500s trinite, trinyte, (Middle English trinte, Middle English–1500s trynite, trinyte, Middle English trynete), Middle English trini-, tryni-, Middle English trynytee; Middle English trenite, (Middle English -ete, Middle English–1500s -yte, 1500s -eti, -etee, -ytie); Middle English–1500s trynitie, 1500s triniti, 1500s–1600s trinitie, 1500s– trinity. Also β. Middle English ternyte, 1500s ternitie.
Etymology: < Old French trinite (in 11th cent. trinitiet , -itet ), also trinetei , trenite , ternite (= Provençal, Spanish trinidad , Portuguese trindade , Italian trinità ) < Latin trīnitāt-em (nominative trīnitās ) ‘a triad, a trio’, in Christian use from Tertullian (195–220), < trīnus : see trine adj. and n. Also in other languages from Latin, e.g. Irish trionnoid, Gaelic trionaid, Welsh trindod; German trinität. Latin trīnitās in Christian use rendered Greek τριάς, used in this sense by Theophilus of Antioch, fl. 180, and by Clement of Alexandria, c150–212. After Tertullian ( Adv. Prax. xxv.) Latin trīnitās is used by Cyprian, Hilary, Marius Victorinus, Priscillian, Jerome, Augustine, and others.
