Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Or (ii) a borrowing from Greek, combined with English elements. Etymons: Greek μονόσχημος , -ic suffix; mono- comb. form, Greek σχῆμα , -ic suffix.
Etymology: Either < Byzantine Greek μονόσχημος employing one rhetorical figure + -ic suffix, or independently < mono- comb. form + ancient Greek σχῆμα schema n. + -ic suffix. Compare post-classical Latin monoschemus (8th cent., 12th cent. in British sources).
Prosody. Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
Of verse: consisting of only one kind of metrical foot.
