Etymology: Either < mis- prefix1 + created, past participle of create v. (compare created adj.), or perhaps < miscreate v. + -ed suffix1 (although the verb is first attested later). Compare slightly earlier miscreate adj. and n. Compare new-created adj., well-created adj.In quot. 1585 a mistranslation: compare note s.v. miscreant n.
Created or formed improperly or unnaturally; misshapen, misformed. Frequently depreciative.
