Etymology: < Italian microsommite (A. Scacchi 1875, in Reale Accad. Sci. Fis. Mat. Napoli Atti 6 ix. 1) < micro- micro- comb. form + Somma , the name of one of the volcanic peaks of Vesuvius + -ite -ite suffix¹.

Mineralogy.

A trigonal aluminosilicate of sodium, calcium, and potassium which occurs as colourless crystals in volcanic rocks.
