Consisting or constructed of small stones; (also, of a period, people, etc.) characterized by the erection of microlithic (as opposed to megalithic) monuments.

Origin: Either (i) formed within English, by derivation; perhaps modelled on a French lexical item. Or (ii) a borrowing from Greek, combined with English elements; perhaps modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: microlith n., -ic suffix; micro- comb. form, Greek λίθος , -ic suffix.
Etymology: Either < microlith n. (although this is first attested slightly later) + -ic suffix, or independently < micro- comb. form + ancient Greek λίθος stone (see -lith comb. form) + -ic suffix, perhaps after French microlitique (1875 in sense 1: see microlitic adj.).
