Origin: Probably a variant or alteration of another lexical item Etymon: anyete v.
Etymology: Probably < anyete v., with phonological reduction of the prefix (see a- prefix3). Compare (in different sense) Old Frisian urjeta , Old High German irgezzan , both in sense ‘to forget’ < the Germanic base of a- prefix1 + the Germanic base of Old English gietan (see get v.).In Old English a strong verb of Class V.
