Etymology: < post-classical Latin menologium (1622 in sense 1 in the title of a book published in Bologna) < Byzantine Greek μηνολόγιον menologion n. Compare earlier menologe n., menology n.
1. = menology n. 1b.In English use only in references to an Old English poem, the editio princeps of which appeared in George Hickes's Linguarum Veterum Septentrionalium Thesaurus (1705) I. 203, together with a Latin translation by Hickes, under the title Calendarium seu Menologium Poeticum.
