Etymology: < metric adj.2 + -ize suffix. Compare earlier metricized adj.1Although N.E.D. (1906) has an entry for this word, there seems to be no other evidence for the independent existence of the simple verb at that date. It appears most likely that N.E.D.'s headword was inferred in order to provide a suitable location for discussion of the adjectival forms: see metricized adj.1
