A square or triangle of cloth, typically having a pattern of white or pale spots or other figures on a background of a uniform colour, used as a handkerchief or (now usually) worn tied around the head, neck, or face for protective or decorative purposes.Bandanas were originally made of tie-dyed silk in India, a technique which was subsequently adopted elsewhere. Cotton bandanas were first produced in 1802 in Glasgow by using hydrochloric acid to bleach a pattern onto cloth of a solid colour.
