释义 | megascleren. Zoology. A large spicule of a sponge, forming one of the chief supporting elements of the skeleton. Cf. microsclere n. ΚΠ 1887 W. J. Sollas in Encycl. Brit. XXII. 416/1 The spicules of different sponges differ greatly both in form and size. They may be conveniently divided into two groups,—minute or flesh spicules, which usually serve as the support of a single cell only (microscleres), and larger or skeletal spicules, which usually contribute to the formation of a more or less consistent skeleton (megascleres). 1916 Proc. Royal Soc. B. 89 320 The megascleres are slender strongyls. 1957 G. E. Hutchinson Treat. Limnol. I. xiv. 799 The formation of megascleres was much less inhibited than that of microscleres. 1993 E. N.
