Etymology: < meat n. + offering n.In versions of the Bible from the 16th cent. used to render Hebrew minḥāh an offering consisting of fine flour or parched corn and oil ( Revised English Bible ‘meal-offering’): see Mincha n. Compare manna n.2
An offering consisting of food (esp. cereal). In later use also: an offering consisting of animal flesh.
