单词 planimetry
释义

planimetryn.

Brit. /plaˈnɪmᵻtri/, /pləˈnɪmᵻtri/, U.S. /pləˈnɪmətri/
Forms: Middle English planemetrie, 1600s planametrie, 1600s planametry, 1600s planametrye, 1600s– planimetry.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element; modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: Latin plāni- , -metry comb. form.
Etymology: < classical Latin plāni- plani- comb. form + -metry comb. form, after post-classical Latin planimetria surveying (12th cent., 1345 in British sources). Compare Middle French, French planimetrie (1484), Italian planimetria (14th cent.), German Planimetrie (1724 or earlier; also as Planemetrie, rare), all in sense ‘plane geometry’.
The measurement of plane surfaces, esp. by means of a planimeter; the geometry of plane surfaces, plane geometry.
