Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with English elements. Etymons: Greek μελαίνειν , -o- connective, -type suffix.
Etymology: < ancient Greek μελαίνειν to turn black (see melasma n.) + -o- connective + -type suffix.
Photography.
A collodion photograph on either glass or metal, esp. one on glass that has to be viewed against a dark background.
