Etymology: < German Manganaxinit (J. Fromme 1909, in Tschermaks mineralogische und petrographische Mitteilungen 28 311) < Mangan (see mangan- comb. form) + Axinit axinite n.

Mineralogy.

A mineral of the axinite group, Ca₂Mn²⁺Al₂BSi₄O₁₅OH, which crystallizes in the triclinic system, and occurs in pegmatite formations. More generally: an axinite with a composition near to this, spec. one with a high proportion of calcium, and with a greater proportion of manganese than iron.
