Origin: Probably formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: maythe n., weed n.1
Etymology: Probably < maythe n. + weed n.1, but evidently influenced at an early stage by maid n.1 Compare maidenweed n. (compare variant reading in quot. 1440 at sense 1), and also mayweed n.
Obsolete.
1. Stinking chamomile, Anthemis cotula. Also stinking maidweed.
