Virology.
Any member of a group (now the genus Lentivirus) of non-oncogenic retroviruses which includes the viruses responsible for certain slow virus diseases (such as visna and maedi in sheep, equine infectious anaemia, and caprine arthritis-encephalitis) and the human, simian, feline, and bovine immunodeficiency viruses. Also (in form Lentivirus): the genus itself.
