(a) leg before wicket: a mode of dismissal in which the batter is judged to have obstructed, with the leg (or another part of the body) rather than the bat, a ball which would otherwise have hit the wicket. Used chiefly as an adverbial or adjectival phrase describing a batter's dismissal in this way.
