Etymology: < Middle French langue tongue (see langue n.) + -ed suffix2, after Middle French, French langué (in heraldic use: of a charger, supporter, etc.) represented with a tongue of a specified tincture (c1450).It is unclear whether the following passage (of difficult interpretation) shows isolated evidence for langue n. in heraldic use:a1450 (c1410) H.
