Any of the class of cyclic imines which are isomers of the lactams and characterized by the group N:C(OH) as part of a ring.

1936 L. J. Desha Org. Chem. xxvi. 522 Lactam-lactim tautomerism involves the shift of a hydrogen atom from nitrogen to oxygen and vice versa.
1951 I. L. Finar Org. Chem. I. xxx. 619 Isatin exists in two forms, the term ψ-isatin being applied to the lactam form I, and isatin to the lactim form II.
1971 Canad. Jrnl. Chem. 49 2612 Investigation showed the free lactim ether to be a probable intermediate in this reaction.
