1820 T. Thomson in Ann. Philos. 16 392 Laccin. I have given this name to a peculiar substance described some years ago by Dr. John, as one of the constituents of stick-lac, though I am not aware that any account of it has hitherto appeared in the English language.
1861 Godey's Lady's Bk. June 524/1 When that is melted it is called shell lac, because it becomes like a thin crust, and this molasses-candy-looking stuff is made from that, and is called laccine.
