Compare kinrik n.As the source of quot. lOE at sense A.α. is probably a forgery of the late 11th or early 12th cent., rather an authentic charter of Edward the Confessor, the attribution to Edward cannot be taken as implying earlier currency. kinrik n. is attested much more frequently in Old English; compare the discussion at kingdom n. Compare the following later instance of the α. forms, where the word is apparently taken to be part of a place name:?c1510 tr. Newe Landes & People founde by Kynge of Portyngale sig. Avi They goo ouer into that kyngdome Kyngryche Gutschyn as hereafter standes wryten. Compare also the Middle English compound kingesriche , in the same sense ( < the genitive of king n. + riche n.; compare Old Icelandic konungsríki (Icelandic kóngsríki), Old Swedish konungsrike (Swedish konungsrike)):a1393 J. Gower Confessio Amantis (Fairf.) v. 4202 Medea with hire art hath wroght..a mantel riche Which semeth worth a kingesriche.
