Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with English elements. Etymons: inter- prefix, Latin nuptiae , -al suffix1.
Etymology: < inter- prefix + classical Latin nuptiae wedding (see nuptial adj.) + -al suffix1. Compare earlier nuptial adj.In sense 2b after French internuptial (1950 or earlier; often in plumage internuptial).
Somewhat rare.
