Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: arrow n., -let suffix.
Etymology: < arrow n. + -let suffix. In sense 1 perhaps after eyelet n. (compare sense 3 at that entry).
1. A narrow vertical opening in the wall of a castle or other fortified building for shooting or looking through or to admit light and air; = arrow slit n. at arrow n. Compounds 2. Also more fully arrowlet hole, arrowlet slit, etc. Obsolete.
