Origin: A borrowing from Japanese. Etymon: Japanese pan-ko.
Etymology: < Japanese pan-ko (1903 or earlier) < pan bread (1591; < Portuguese pão , reinforced by Spanish pan : see pan dulce n.) + ko flour, powder.
In Japanese cookery: breadcrumbs, esp. dried and pre-packaged long-life bread flakes prepared from bread from which the crust has been removed.
