单词 assyro-
释义

Assyro-comb. form

Stress is usually determined by a subsequent element and vowels may be reduced accordingly. Some degree of stress is always maintained on the second syllable. If the subsequent element is an existing word, it is likely to retain its original stress pattern, e.g. Assyro-Babylonian adj. Brit. /əˌsɪrəʊbabᵻˈləʊnɪən/, U.S. /əˌsɪroʊˌbæbəˈloʊniən/.
Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: Assyrian adj., -o- connective.
Etymology: < Assyr- (in Assyrian adj.) + -o- connective.Compare post-classical Latin Assyro- (in e.g. Assyro-Caldaeus Assyro-Chaldean (1796 or earlier), Assyro-Persicus Assyro-Persian (1803 or earlier)).
combining form of Assyrian (Assyrian adj.), as Assyro-Babylonian adj. of or relating to both Assyria and Babylonia; spec. designating an ancient Semitic language of Mesopotamia; hence as n., = Akkadian adj. 1.
