Etymology: < Fulfulde Fulɓe (plural), self-designation < Ful- , mutated stem of Pullo Pullo n. + -ɓe , plural class suffix denoting people. Compare earlier Pullo n. and the discussion at that entry. Compare later Fula n., Fulani n., and Fellata n. With use with reference to the language compare Fulfulde n.Although derived from a plural form, Fulbe is also used as a singular in English, with a secondary plural form Fulbes.
