Etymology: < Czech haléř, halíř (14th cent. or earlier) < Middle High German, early modern German haller heller n.1 Compare Slovak halier.In plural form haleru after the Czech genitive plural haléřů (used after numerals from five and above).
In Czechoslovakia, and subsequently in the Czech Republic: a monetary unit introduced in 1892 and equal to one hundredth of a koruna; a coin of this value. Cf. heller n.1In the Czech Republic, the 10- and 20-haleru coins were withdrawn from circulation in October 2003, and the 50-haleru coins in August 2008.
