Etymology: < post-classical Latin armipotentia power of arms (4th cent.; < classical Latin armipotent- , armipotēns armipotent adj. + -ia -ia suffix1), with remodelling after potence n.2 Compare earlier armipotent adj.
Power in the use of or bestowed by arms; armed might. Also in extended use.
