Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Arkansas.
Etymology: < Arkansas, the name of a state in the south of the United States, with metathesis in the first syllable and (in the α. forms) alteration of the ending apparently for the purposes of internal rhyme.Sometimes written Rack-in-Sack, Rackin Sack, etc., apparently as a result of folk-etymological reanalysis.
U.S. colloquial (depreciative). Now historical and rare.
The state of Arkansas. Also: a native or inhabitant of Arkansas.
