With plural agreement: a small phylum of minute acoelomate worms which typically occur in anoxic marine sands and are characterized by an elongated ciliated body and a pair of toothed jaws; (also in form gnathostomulida) animals of this phylum (collectively or individually).The Gnathostomulida were discovered in 1956; they appear to be intermediate between cnidarians and flatworms.
