Also in extended use, implying practicality, helpfulness, etc.In quot. 1909 the term is used informally by a person observing a Scout leading a troop of uniformed girls, later to be known as Girl Guides, in London. The first Girl Scout troop was organized by Juliette Gordon Low (1860–1927) in Savannah, Georgia, in 1912, and the national organization Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. was formed in 1950. Girls were admitted into the Scout Association in the United Kingdom in 1990.
