单词 arminian
释义

Arminianadj.n.

Brit. /ɑːˈmɪnɪən/, U.S. /ɑrˈmɪniən/
Forms: 1600s Armenian, 1600s– Arminian.
Origin: From a proper name, combined with an English element; probably partly modelled on a Dutch lexical item. Etymons: proper name Arminius , -an suffix.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin Arminius, Latinized form of Harmensen , the surname of Jacobus Arminius (see definition) + -an suffix, in use as noun probably after Dutch Arminianen, plural noun (1617 or earlier). Compare post-classical Latin Arminianus , adjective and noun (1618 in the passages translated in quots. 1618 at sense A. and 1618 at sense B.). With the use as adjective, compare Arminianish adj. and the Dutch model cited at that entry.
