Etymology: < classical Latin adnōminātiōn-, adnōminātiō (in post-classical Latin also annominatio) wordplay based on words which sound similar, an instance of this < ad- ad- prefix + nōminātiō nomination n., after Hellenistic Greek παρονομασία paronomasia n. Compare adnomination n., agnomination n.Compare French †annomination (1602 or earlier).
